Towards Standardizing MashSSL

SafeMashups has released an open version of the proprietary MashSSL 1.1.0 specification called MashSSL Open 1.2.0. The specification is being made open under the W3C Patent Policy and the Open Web Foundation Agreement (executed document can be found here). It is recommended that the interested reader first skim through the White Paper on MashSSL before reading the standard. The MashSSL standard itself is intended to be a self contained document, but an attempt has been made to carefully reference each part of Dierks and Rescorla's TLS 1.2 specification that it uses. A huge debt of gratitude is owed to those authors and all those who were involved with the SSL standards process!

To further advance the specification, a new incubator group, the W3C MashSSL XG, has been formed under the aegis of the W3C. This XG will soon propose a recommendation that, if approved, will be the basis of Working Group activity to produce a W3C approved standard. Concomitant to these efforts, SafeMashups has in conjunction with its partners Comodo, Digicert, Entrust, VeriSign, etc., formed the MashSSL Alliance which is chartered with evangelizing and promoting the specification.

Finally, for those who wish to implement the proprietary MashSSL 1.1.0 specification, SafeMashups is pleased to make available a free license that should be applicable to most enterprises. Please follow this link for details.
